From their website: "Based on the traditional German sound, Stephan Leitzinger has created a completely new bocal type which combines modern requirements with traditional sound quality. He has succeeded in achieving a sound that is equally rich in all registers while providing secure intonation and excellent response quality. Each bocal is individually soldered, hammered and bent by hand, then plated with either silver, gold or platinum. With these bocals the musician can play in a relaxed manner, be it pianissimo or fortissimo, while achieving the richest sound volume."

Below are descriptions for the standard materials and bore types. For your convenience, we also added our comments on our real experiences with these bocals from our playtests. For more information on the F and Z letters, please refer to that listing.

Types

E - has more resistance, a very warm tone and secure response in the upper registers (MMI is not currently stocking this type!)

N - has less blowing resistance, a powerful upper register and richness of overtones; we found that these bocals are very stable and reliable - compare them to a Heckel CC.

V - has a very open sound, low blowing resistance and a very rich lower register; these bocals boast a very dark, warm sound, especially in the low register. Great for 2nd bassoon and blending! Compare to Püchner CC.

Material

M - made of thicker metal; thick-wall

S - made of thinner metal; thin-wall

L - offers excellent response qualities, tone color flexibility and excellent upper register; paired with M or S to create ML or SL - compare with the Heckel V-types.

D - special alloy based on a traditional recipe (MMI is not currently stocking this type!)
